A Gurugram-based startup has reportedly fired an employee merely 20 days after joining. Why? Because the said employee appeared to have an ‘attitude problem’ and wasn’t ‘down to earth’.

The employee’s Reddit post describes how on the third day at work as a new joinee he was told he wasn’t being down to earth. The employee, though puzzled, assured the employer that he would work on it.

However, things only got worse with the employer objecting to him taking smoking breaks with two other newcomers. Even a break for tea began to irk the employer. The fact that the employer punched out at 7 p.m. sharp every evening did not go down well with the management either.

On the 20th day, the employee was told to move from his desk to work from inside the director’s cabin. However, when the director noticed that the employee was looking out of the cabin at 7 p.m. to check if a colleague had left for the last smoke of the day before leaving, the director lost his temper and asked the HR to fire the employee!

That isn’t all. A week later when the director asked the employer to be present for a meeting with his manager regarding the termination of his employment, the entire conversation was recorded on video.

However, when the employee tried to record the same, the director refused to let him saying he was being oversmart and that he would be given the recording later.

Users who read the post agreed that the employee was better off without that job. Some suggested he should defame the company, while others wondered how he managed to put up with such treatment for 20 days. Responding to pressure from the public the said employee has registered a complaint with the labour commissioner but has not revealed the name of the startup.
