    Employee strikes in European countries

On January 25, 2023, at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), all passenger flights were canceled as airport staff walked out because of a dispute over higher pay.

The airport said almost 300 flights were either rescheduled or canceled, which affected around 35,000 passengers.

The Verdi Union called a day-long ‘warning strike’ to increase pressure ahead of the next round of negotiations with seniors.

Around 1,500 airport employees are going to take part in the walkout, according to the union.

Verdi is a powerful union and is trying to push for the monthly salary of ground crew to increase by 500 euros over a 12-month period. Along with that for the security personnel, the union wants higher bonus payments for weekend and holiday hours.

Amazon employees are going on their first-ever strike in the U.K., and 100 of them are protesting against what they describe as ‘derisory’ salary bumps offered by the tech giant.

According to the GMB union, almost 300 workers at an Amazon warehouse in the city of Coventry have gone on strike.

Over 98% of the workers have voted in favor of the walkout. The voting of the GMB Union members happened in December. This was done to make a decision to go forward with the labor action after Amazon offered to raise pay for the workers by 50 cents per hour.
