According to media reports, eBay is set to lay off approximately 20–25 employees out of its 250-strong workforce in Israel. These layoffs are unrelated to the ongoing conflict in the region and are part of a broader global restructuring initiative by the company.
In February 2023, eBay, the e-commerce company, announced its decision to implement a global workforce reduction, affecting four per cent of its total employee strength, amounting to 500 individuals. Among those impacted are numerous staff members at eBay’s research and development (R&D) centre in Israel, established in 2005 after the acquisition of shopping.com for $620 million.
The recent layoffs mark the second round of layoffs for eBay Israel this year, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to streamline its operations and adapt to changing market dynamics. The R&D centre in Israel has played a significant role in eBay’s technological advancements over the years. Not surprisingly, therefore, the workforce reduction is a noteworthy development as part of the company’s global restructuring strategy.
Based in San Jose, California, eBay is an e-commerce company that facilitates online sales between customers and retailers across 190 global markets.
