    E&Y scales up hiring to establish largest workforce outside US

    In a bid to increase its workforce strength, consultancy firm, Ernst and Young (E&Y), has decided to hire a total of 23,000 professionals by June, 2020. The firm will be hiring for its Global Delivery Service (GDS) centres and member firms.

    In September, earlier this year, E&Y had announced its intention to hire around 14,000 employees for its GDS centres in India. The move was aimed at boosting the technology and consultancy services delivery network in the country.

    According to media reports, the London-based global consultancy firm, which follows a July to June financial year, has already hired around 11,000 employees. By the end of June next year, it plans to hire another 12,000 workers.

    At a time when the nation is facing low employment and a slowdown of the economy, Ernst and Young is one of the companies hiring at a tremendous pace, and in big numbers in India.

    Other prominent names, such as Bain and Company, Honeywell and Microsoft, are also recruiting in large numbers from the campuses of renowned Indian technology and management institutes.

    In India, E&Y already has around 50,000 employees. The slow rate of job growth across sectors has not derailed the firm from trying to employ the largest workforce outside of the US.

    According to media reports, the primary focus of E&Y will be on hiring candidates from the STEM background, which includes science, technology, engineering and mathematics. More than 50 per cent of the new hires will be from a STEM background.
