Flipkart, the e-commerce platform, has added four additional supply chain facilities in the state of Gujarat, which will add about 5,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state, says the Company in a media statement. The facilities will be added in the cities of Ahmedabad and Surat.
As per the Walmart-owned company, apart from adding more job opportunities in the state, this move will also help local sellers to enhance their business capabilities. It will give them an opportunity to cater to the growing demand of e-commerce services in the state de.
The supply chain facilities will cover around five lakh square feet in both the cities, which will impact almost 35,000 thousand local sellers in the state of Gujarat alone. The Company has reportedly created over 1.3 lakh jobs in Gujarat. Data from the Company reveals that almost 52 per cent of new Flipkart consumers come from the tier 2 cities of the country.
Gujarat has emerged as a very strong marketplace for the Company, and therefore, it will continue to enhance its business and capabilities in the state in the future as well. Earlier this month, the company entered into an MoU with the Gujarat government for the development of handloom and handicrafts industry in the state. The initiative is aimed at bringing artisans, weavers and craftsmen from across industries into the fold of e-commerce, so that they can grow and prosper.
