Wat-a-Burger, the Indian burger chain has ambitious plans to expand its current 300-strong team and double it within the next six months. It aims to take its headcount to 600+ in the first two quarters of the new fiscal. The brand, which is focused on expansion in Maharashtra and Karnataka, is majorly looking at talent for its technology and management teams.

The brand has recently appointed Rahul Kumar as operations head. Kumar will be responsible for streamlining functions, increasing output, merging tech with day-to-day operations, and so on. Backed by nine years of rich experience in the field of operations, Kumar has, in the past, worked with known brands, such as Haldiram, California Burrito, Fresh menu, Food craft and Mc Donald’s. Given his experience, it is hoped that Kumar will be able to scale the operations and enhance the internal functioning of the Chain.

Kumar holds expertise in contingency management, loyalty programmes, setting up protocols and execution, organisation development, marketing and HR management.

His appointment comes at a time when “Wat-a-Burger is aggressively looking at implementing automation as the core of the entire model,” says Kumar. He believes that “in the startup F&B space there is more acceptance of technology” now and this is a good opportunity for him to “implement new ideas and multiply the outcome.”

Rajat Jaiswal, co-founder, Wat-a-Burger, is confident that Kumar “will turn out to be an asset for the brand.”
