Adopting sustainable transportation in a bid to contribute towards reducing carbon emission, Ashok Leyland has introduced electric buses for its employees. The Chennai-based commercial vehicle firm will start using these electric buses in phases.

With the aim of reducing carbon footprint, quite recently the Company had also announced its plan to source clean energy from Hinduja Renewables for its operations. The electric buses will be procured from Switch Mobility, its subsidiary.

The supplier of defence logistics vehicles and manufacturer of buses and trucks, has been expanding its business at great speed, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI)-led digital transformation.

The Company’s Analytics Centre of Excellence, which is focussed on business analytics, is trained in data science and works to drive AI within the organisation.

Last month, there were media reports that hinted at the Hinduja Group exploring plans for “blank cheque” mergers that could lead to it going public in the US. Ashok Leyland, which is part of the Group, was reportedly looking at a possible merger of Switch Mobility with a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) in New York.

The Group is also said to be looking at a private capital-raising for Ashok Leyland. With over 150 of its vehicles already in service in the UK, Ashok Leyland is clearly gearing up to expand in the electric vehicle market.

The Hinduja Group is keen to invest more in the electric vehicle space.
