The Haryana government has ended the contracts of more than 1,200 employees hired through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRNL), including 252 post-graduate teachers (PGTs). With their positions now filled by permanent recruits, several contractual employees in departments such as education, forest, and panchayati raj have been relieved from their duties across multiple districts, including Jind, Fatehabad, Sonepat and Yamunanagar.
Established in October 2021, under the Companies Act, 2013, HKRNL has recruited approximately 1.20 lakh contractual employees for various government departments. These employees were placed in vacant positions on annual contracts, which were previously renewed after 12 months. However, the latest move has left many uncertain about their future, as their contracts have not been extended.
Many affected employees have expressed distress over their sudden removal, as they now stare into a future that is bleak and uncertain. Teachers and junior engineers who have been impacted are unsure whether they will be reassigned or permanently dismissed.
In some cases, department officials have informed employees that their contracts have ended due to the arrival of permanent hires. Government representatives, however, maintain that discussions are on to look at possible reassignments if vacancies exist elsewhere.
With mounting pressure from opposition leaders and affected employees, the government’s next course of action remains uncertain, leaving thousands in a state of anxiety over their employment prospects.
