Meesho, the digital commerce platform, is looking to expand its technology team by at least 450. By the end of 2021, it already had a 325-strong team in place. It is now looking at increasing its tech headcount to at least 750.
The Company witnessed extraordinary growth last year and was able to double its team size. Its overall team strength is over 1,700 employees, and this year, it is expected to grow by at least 1,500.
Meesho’s technology team comprises two main divisions — engineering and data science.
Interestingly, Meesho, which follows the asset-light approach, is essentially a technology-based business. Therefore, it does not have warehouses, does not maintain an inventory, and has no logistics division either.
In 2021, it had raised funds to the tune of $570 million from various investors, such as Fidelity Management & Research Company, B Capital Group, Prosus Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Facebook. As a result, its valuation had doubled to $4.9 billion.
At 14.5 MB, the Meesho app is probably the lightest e-commerce app, and that is quite apt because since it caters to the lower middle class and its users primarily belong to smaller towns and cities.
Quite recently, the e-commerce firm was in the news for its ‘gender confirmation’ leave policy, wherein its employees can avail up to a month’s paid leave for gender reassignment surgery or other relevant medical procedures, if they so wish.
