Salary hike for Bombardier pilots of SpiceJet

To retain its pilots and keep poachers at bay, the carrier has given a hike of 20–25% to its Bombardier Q400 pilots, bringing their salaries on a par with those of Boeing 737 pilots.

SpiceJet has recently made news for all the right reasons. From rehiring Ajay Singh to its shares going up by 13 per cent, the low-cost carrier seems to be getting back in business after a series of problems plagued it earlier this year.

The budget airline has been in the middle of a turnaround and has taken this step on its tenth anniversary. With as many as 100 Q400 pilots in a total of 450, the move will cost the company an additional Rs. 50 lakh a month. The industry’s average monthly salary for senior commanders is Rs 5.5 lakh.

The airline has gone a step ahead to win the trust of its pilots by announcing the creation of a pilot benevolent fund.
