Wipro’s business process outsourcing (BPO) services division will now have an additional business line, which will offer end-to-end human resource (HR) solutions and services.

The Company had struck a ten-year deal worth $1.6 billion  with Alight Solutions, the US-based HR and financial solutions provider as part of which it had taken over the operations of Alight HR Services India a few months back. With the latter’s operations being integrated with Wipro’s, the new business unit will be counted amongst the largest players in the HR space. As part of the deal, Wipro was also required to effectively implement the digital transformation of Alight’s business.

With Alight’s employees joining the Wipro workforce, the Wipro BPO will have about 54000 employees. Jasjit Singh Kang, business head of Alight’s India operations, is said to be under consideration to head the new unit.

The additional business line will make Wipro capable of competing with bigger names including Hewitt and Mercer in addition to IT service providers, such as Accenture.

It is said that this move will enable Wipro to design cloud-based HR solutions. It will also allow Wipro to come up with software as a service (SaaS) platforms and solutions in the human resources field.

This is just the right step in the right direction for the Company, given its plans to establish itself in the HR arena.
