The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has mandated that establishments must provide labour accommodation for the employees. The ministry also posted an update on their official Twitter account stating the eligibilities and criteria for the same.
The ministry announced on Twitter that establishments are required to provide accommodation if they have 50 or more workers and if those workers earn AED1,500 or less. Additionally, the post also highlighted some rules and regulations that these said accommodations must meet:
Adhere to the standard guidelines for shared labour accommodation and the services it provides.
Ensure compliance with the standard guidelines for shared accommodations that are specifically designated for housing fewer than 500 workers.
The UAE government also stated that the employers must ensure that the accommodations are not dark and are well-lit, and have proper ventilation and air-conditioning
Additionally, each individual must be assigned a minimum of three square meters of space. Specific guidelines have also been set for bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and dining rooms. The accommodation must include a medical service room, a prayer room, and a laundry room as well.
