Hero MotoCorp appoints Mike Clarke as COO & CHRO

Clarke, who comes with about 26 years of experience, will take charge w.e.f January 1, 2021

Michael Clarke will take charge as the chief operating officer (COO) as well as the chief human resource officer (CHRO) at Hero MotoCorp with effect from January 1, 2021.

In his new role, Clarke will provide “strategic leadership in operational excellence” and “drive the talent agenda” at the Indian two-wheeler manufacturing company.

In his approx. 26 years of experience, Clarke has worked in the human resources domain in various capacities. Back in 1994, he served as the HR manager for Scottish and Newcastle for two years. He then moved to Breed Technologies as regional HR director for Europe, for three years. In 1999, he joined Tenneco as VP-HR International, and stayed put for over eight years — probably his longest stint. He joined the Fiat Group in 2008, as senior vice president – HR, Europe, for a year.

He moved on to Hertz in 2009, where he was VP-HR, EMEA for eight months before taking on the role of VP-human resources international and revenue management. He held this position for almost five and a half years.

In 2015, this mechanical engineer and MBA from John Moores University was appointed SVP and CHRO at Delphi Technologies, where he successfully handled all HR-related matters as CHRO and global communications.

In his new assignment, Clarke will report to Pawan Munjal, chairman, Hero MotoCorp. Given his “global experience and expertise in managing complex operations,” he will be expected to help the Company “create benchmark products and facilities, including industry leading processes and operations.”

Earlier this year, Hero MotoCorp witnessed many promotions, with Malo Le Masson, former head-global product planning, being promoted as head – strategy; Mahesh Kaikini, former head of the Gurugram plant, being promoted as chief quality officer; and Ashutosh Varma, who was head of sales (West zone), being made the head-national sales.
