Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has received alerts about the possible exposure of certain employee-related data, with the IT major saying its customer information and operational systems have not been affected.
The company disclosed the development on 10 August, saying the information referred to in the alerts appears to be more than four years old. The data is understood to be limited to basic employee information. Tata Consumtancy Services has not provided further details about the nature of the alerts or the source of the claims.
According to the company, safeguards have been in place for more than two years to protect against the method reportedly used in the incident. Its internal operational systems have also remained unaffected, based on its assessment so far.
TCS said its existing security controls continue to be effective and that it is monitoring the situation closely as it reviews the alerts.
The development puts employee data security in focus as large technology companies manage extensive workforce information across multiple systems and geographies. Basic employee records can include information used for administrative and human resource processes, making data protection an important part of enterprise security frameworks.
The company has not indicated that customer information has been compromised, and there is currently no reported impact on its customer systems or services.
The company continues to assess the matter and has maintained that its operational environment remains secure based on the review conducted so far.
