Swiggy, the food-delivery platform has collaborated with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to launch the Swiggy Skills initiative. The programme is aimed at providing opportunities for internships, jobs and training within Swiggy’s food-delivery and quick commerce network.
A formal agreement was entered into by Swiggy and MSDE, to skill and make youth employable in the hospitality and retail-management space.
This public-private partnership will contribute significantly to the Government of India’s vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’. It is also in line with the country’s National Logistics Policy and other measures towards creating a growth environment where skilling and education happen side by side.
The launch of the platform happened in the presence of Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Minister of State for Education, and Rohit Kapoor, CEO, Swiggy Food Marketplace.
It was revealed that Swiggy Skills will integrate with MSDE’s Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) across the apps of Swiggy’s partners, which will allow almost 2.4 lakh delivery partners and the employees of about two lakh restaurant partners to easily access online skill-development courses and training modules, and obtain offline certifications.
The youth that have been trained via the MSDE programmes for various operational, retail and logistics roles in the food and beverage business will have a chance to be connected with Swiggy’s network, which increases their job opportunities.
Swiggy Instamart will provide jobs to about 3,000 youth. Additionally, 200 people who have been trained under MSDE will be given opportunities to intern with Swiggy Instamart’s quick- commerce operations at the senior level.
Swiggy’s employee volunteering programme will involve in-house expertise for the designing of training modules on marketing, quick commerce, retail, logistics, and even artificial intelligence (AI).
