Tripura Cabinet removes deadline to address pay anomalies among govt employees

The Tripura Cabinet has removed the deadline for employees to exercise an option aimed at resolving pay anomalies between senior and junior government employees arising from financial upgradation under the Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme (MACPS).

Under the MACP Scheme, government employees become eligible for financial upgradation after 10, 17 and 25 years of continuous and satisfactory service without promotion, in accordance with the ROP Rules, 2017.

The Finance Department said anomalies had arisen in cases where employees received MACP benefits between January 2 and July 1. Their date of annual increment was consequently deferred to January 1 of the following year, creating situations where a senior employee could receive less pay than a junior colleague.

In September 2023, the government had allowed affected employees to opt for MACP benefits on their next increment date for the purpose of pay fixation. However, the option had to be exercised by October 31, 2023.

The Cabinet has now decided to withdraw this deadline, allowing employees who could not exercise the option within the prescribed period to avail themselves of the benefit.

The decision, taken at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, is expected to benefit a large number of government employees and help correct pay disparities between senior and junior personnel.
