All government employees of Telangana will receive increments and will also have their age of superannuation raised, as per an announcement made by the chief minister of the state. The benefit will cover more than nine lakh employees, including all daily-wage employees, home guards, outsourced employees, anganwadi staff, ASHAs, pensioners, grant-in aid staff and those who receive honorariums.

The raising of the age of retirement will impact promotions and transfers, and steps will be taken to simplify service rules.

The chief minister issued instructions that retiring employees, irrespective of the class or grade they belong to, be felicitated on their day of retirement and be dropped home in a government vehicle. He also directed that all their retirement benefits should be handed over to them on the day of retirement. He also promised that all employee-related issues will be sorted out at the earliest.

It was announced that the process of filling vacant government posts will also begin in earnest with effect from February. These announcements have been welcomed by employees’ unions.

It was conveyed that any financial burden on the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) owing to these increments will be borne by the state government.

A three-member committee has been constituted to closely examine all the concerns raised and also discuss the same with the employees’ unions. This Committee will also take a close look at the report by the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) in the first week of January and discuss the same at length with the unions, before lending advice to the government on the matter of salary revisions, regulation of service policies and retirement age, and so on.

The final decision will be made by the state cabinet.
