With the festive season fast approaching, there has been a 23 per cent hike in the April to August period in staffing requirements, as compared to the same period last year. As per a recent report, almost 32,000 job vacancies were posted during this period in the banking financial services and insurance (BFSI) space, retail, telecom, as well as manufacturing and industrial (M&I) segments. Hiring has increased in these sectors ahead of the festive season. At least 5,000 jobs are expected to be added every month in these sectors.

The demand has been more for customer-relationship officers, warehouse associates, production trainees, branch-relationship executives, collection officers, business development executives, broadband sales executives and sales executives.

In spite of the inflationary conditions, the retail, BFSI and manufacturing sectors have witnessed growth. In fact, the manufacturing sector has witnessed a whopping 245 per cent increase in demand for human resources this year (compared to the same period in 2022), thanks to increased use of new technologies that has improved efficiency. With technological advancements, the demand for specialised professionals is also growing.

The automobile manufacturing sector has also seen more hiring, particularly because of the increased activity in the EV-manufacturing space.

Additionally, with the popularity of apprentice manpower hiring growing in the country, the demand for National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) workers in this segment is increasing by the day.

In the BFSI sector too, there has been a 27 per cent increase in demand for manpower in preparation for the festival season. In the telecom space, 14 per cent hike in demand for manpower has been seen, with the launch of 5G..

There was a hike of nine per cent in the demand for gig workers in the retail industry. Earlier, the e-commerce space required more gig workers.

Hiring in the e-commerce and auto sectors is expected to go up further with rising consumer demand. The e-commerce and logistics industry will be amongst the top employers, with a huge workforce expected to touch 3 lakh people. Flexible staff will be in demand more in the metros than anywhere else.
