Purnima Kumar has been promoted to executive vice president-human resources (digital, sports) and total rewards, JioStar. She had joined the joint venture between Disney India, Reliance Industries and Viacom18 (a subsidiary of Reliance Industries) a year ago.

After completing a BTech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Purnima Kumar went on to obtain an MBA in Human Resources Management from XLRI Jamshedpur in 2004.

She then joined Accenture India as social media/direct sourcing lead in 2004. Two years into this role, she was elevated to sourcing lead, India business and capability network.
From May 2008 to August 2010, she served as talent strategist and human capital and diversity programme manager.

After another promotion in 2010, she started heading human resources for Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangladesh and enabling functions, for Accenture India.

An elevation in 2014 put her in the position of global head, strategic sourcing and candidate experience. Three years into this role came another promotion that saw her handling global HR transformation-recruiting delivery director. By the time she moved on from Accenture in 2020, she had reached the position of global recruiting operations director.

After a successful 16-year long tenure with Accenture, Purnima Kumar joined Walt Disney Company (TWDC) as executive director, talent acquisition and people strategy and programmes. After over four years of working with TWDC, she joined JioStar in November of 2024, as head-total rewards, people programmes, talent acquisition and co-lead JV integration for JioStar.

Now, in her elevated role, as HR leader of JioStar’s digital and sports businesses, she will be “responsible for leading the people strategy and transformation charter of JioStar’s digital platforms and sports ecosystem, while continuing to lead compensation & benefits for Jiostar”. She will focus on “building future-ready capabilities, scaling business growth, and strengthening the talent story across India’s largest streaming and sports portfolio”.

HRKatha wishes Purnima Kumar all the best in her endeavour to “shape total rewards and drive progressive rewards practices and innovation for Jiostar to support growth, market competitiveness, and to attract, retain and inspire exceptional talent”.
