The campaign is aimed at providing greater career opportunities to graduates from a non-engineering background and offers them relevant career opportunities at entry-level in multinational IT companies

HCL TalentCare, an end-to-end talent solutions company incorporated under HCL corporation on the occasion of this World Youth Skills Day, launched a campaign — ‘Career for Graduates in IT’, which is aimed at providing greater career opportunities to graduates from non-engineering backgrounds . It offers them relevant entry-level career opportunities at multinational IT companies across the country.

Industry research shows that of the 6.5 million non-engineering graduates coming out every year—who are academically qualified to join the diversified workforce of the industry— at least 80–85 per cent require additional skills to make them job-ready and employable.

Furthermore, a recent survey on skill mismatch and finding the right talent showed that up to 75 per cent of employers in India have trouble finding the right people, particularly at the entry level.

Additionally, the high level of attrition at the entry level (0-3 year experience), leading to an expensive and repetitive cycle of hiring, training, staffing and replacement, makes the talent scenario even more complex for organisations. Consequently, organisations nowadays look for job-ready resources, with a high level of productivity and sustainability.

With a commitment to skilling graduates and bridging the employability divide in the IT industry, the company also announced the successful roll-out of its Young Graduate Programme (YGP) for IT, which is a customised training programme designed to transform graduates into job-ready professionals.

    Ravishankar B

Ravishankar B, executive vice president, HCL TalentCare says, “HCL TalentCare is focussed on addressing the complete value chain of sourcing, skilling and staffing requirements for entry-level employments in key industries like IT and associated industries like banking, insurance, healthcare, etc. In a nutshell, we are creating a business model by offering ‘Productivity-on-Arrival’ and ‘Just-in-time hiring’ to our clients and a ‘career launch pad’ to graduates”.

The course has a rigorous and intensive ‘10 hours-a-day’ training for students, and examines them on par with industry standards to suit the needs of clients. During the training, students are exposed to real-time projects simulating the same environment as would exist in their jobs.

Ravishankar explained that the YGP for IT is a three-month residential programme for graduates coming from non-engineering backgrounds. “The training will be conducted in our state-of-the-art residential campuses in Chennai and Hyderabad. Currently, some of our clients in the IT sector are increasingly demanding graduates for roles like application support and maintenance, testing, infrastructure management, etc. The YGP for IT module addresses this segment and provides adaptive, experiential, customised and collaborative learning to the students”, he added.

The course has a rigorous and intensive ‘10 hours-a-day’ training for students, and examines them on par with industry standards to suit the needs of clients. During the training, students are exposed to real-time projects simulating the same environment as would exist in their jobs.

For most long-duration programmes, HCL TalentCare also facilitates fee payment for students through bank loans. 80 per cent of the fee is paid by the company, and only the rest needs to be paid by the students.

In addition, the company also offers an open-for-all general online aptitude test –Job Ability Quotient – for assessing and certifying job-readiness in fresh graduates. So far, the company has successfully trained and placed over 2,500 graduates in the corporate sector and plans to create a larger talent pool in the future.

Ravishankar says, “Although we have millions of graduates passing out each year, organisations still face a dearth of required talent and candidates face employability issues owing to lack of certain critical skills. Considering that, we are happy to roll-out the ‘Career for Graduates in IT’ campaign on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day. As part of this, we will conduct campus activation drives and student engagements in over 1000 colleges across the country and continue aligning with the Government’s ‘Skilling India Mission’.
