Is Duolingo replacing contract employees with AI?

Duolingo, the language app will slowly discontinue using contract employees and allow artificial intelligence or AI to take over whatever it can. This was conveyed to the employees by Luis von Ahn, co-foudner and CEO, Duolingo, in an e-mail. Luis von Ahn is endeavouring to make Duolingo an AI-first firm.

Von Ahn intends to use AI in hiring and performance assessments. Only work that cannot be automated will be done manually. He clarifies that these changes are aimed at eliminating bottlenecks and the intention is not to replace the employees with AI. The idea is to allow employees to concentrate on resolving real problems and let their creativity flow. Being engaged in routine and repetitive work will not leave them time to bring out their creativity.

It is von Ahn’s belief that AI will not only increase productivity but also help Duolingo teach better by creating more content. For this to happen, it is necessary to rely on AI for the content-creation process. Only then will it be possible to reach out to more learners at the earliest.

He also assures employees that they will be trained and mentored so that they are able to use AI tools in their function. He is confident that this change and embracing of AI will only help Duos stay ahead and in the lead.
