Meta recently trimmed its AI team by 600, and is now asking the remaining team members to use Metamate, its internal AI chatbot, for performance reviews.
Managers at Meta are being encouraged to assess the performance of their teams with the help of the AI software, which is now an integral part of the AI systems within the organisation. Metamate is capable of examining internal documents, summarising projects, accomplishments and feedback to help staff put together performance reviews for the annual appraisals. The increasing reliance on the software indicates rapid progression towards streamlining processes and achieving speed when it comes to exercises that require a lot of time, including drafting self-reviews and peer reviews.
As per a BI report, an official order has not been issued asking to embrace Metamate for performance reviews, and it is indeed being used in various degrees across teams. While some employees are reportedly using it for self-assessments, others are only relying on its template for peer reviews. Not all are satisfied with its outputs, which they feel require a lot of polishing and additional work since details of individual achievements in various projects are required for more accurate evaluation.
Meta has been using AI widely to enhance efficiency and increase productivity just as most other companies are doing.
Last month, a memo had been issued to about 600 employees at Meta’s AI Superintelligence Labs informing that 21 November would be the last working day for them. Until then they would be serving their notice period, during which they were free to look for other suitable positions within Meta, as they would not be expected to do any work for the company and would have no access to internal systems.
