Ayushi Doshi, an advocate, recently shared a screenshot of the reason an employee gave her for arriving late. Apparently, the said junior had stayed on at office till 8:30 p.m. to meet a deadline. Therefore, before leaving for home, he sent a message to inform Doshi that since he had been working till 8:30 p.m. he would be coming to office only at 11:30 the next morning.
While Doshi was left flummoxed by the reason given by this junior for his late arrival, the post attracted mixed reactions from social-media users.
Interestingly, many social-media users have supported the employee, saying he was right in doing what he did, while others feel punctuality should never be compromised, irrespective of other commitments or work.
Some went to the extent of saying that Doshi should not have allowed him to work late in the first place.
Doshi went on to clarify that the employee had been given a task which required barely a day to be completed. He was supposed to be on duty from 10 in the morning to 7 in the evening. Since he hadn’t been able to complete the work during the working hours, all he needed was to put in an hour and a half more to get the work done. The need for the same, Doshi feels, would not have arisen had he focused on the work during office hours. However, Doshi pointed out that the said employee had the tendency to spend much of his working hours talking on the phone instead of working.
Some of those who commented seemed impressed by the junior’s confidence, which they felt stemmed from the fact that he was probably a good performer.
Is this a Gen Z attitude issue?
