Deloitte’s annual well-being subsidy of $1000 is given to employees to spend on their own well-being. There is a wide range of items that employees can spend this allowance on, such as gym memberships, fitness sessions and gaming consoles. This year, Deloitte has added Legos and puzzles to this list along with kitchen appliances, cooling fans and spa services.

The idea of spending the well-being subsidy on Legos is rather appealing to the workforce, some of whom cannot wait to grab highly-priced Lego sets that may have seemed unaffordable earlier. Many employees have welcomed the addition and have reportedly expressed that they cannot wait to splurge on the Ultimate Millennium Falcon Set, which is the costliest Lego set and comes with more than 7,500 pieces.

Deloitte employees are said to put in more hours per week than the average US employee. In fact, on an average, Deloitte staff members work for 55 hours a week compared to others in the US who put in about 34 hours. The well-being subsidy simply helps Deloitte employees handle and deal better with the long hours. The allowance, however, is not available to interns and contract staff.

This subsidy, which was introduced at least six years ago, used to be $500 earlier but was later doubled. Legos are popular with young and old alike and serve as stress busters. Studies prove that Legos tend to have a calming and relaxing effect on people, even while improving motor skills in children.
