Lenovo is strengthening its presence in India by positioning the country as both a high-growth market and a global hub for artificial intelligence. The company is scaling up its AI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, which currently has 400 employees, with plans to add another 1,000 highly- skilled professionals.

The centre will support consulting, security and enterprise services while also helping businesses design complete digital transformation frameworks.

The expansion follows a strong performance in FY25, when Lenovo’s India business recorded a 67 per cent year-on-year growth in revenue, reaching USD 3.4 billion. Enterprise solutions under Lenovo’s ISG division have been a major contributor, driven by early adoption of AI across industries including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, BFSI and cooperative banks in smaller cities.

Alongside services, Lenovo is investing heavily in manufacturing. Its Puducherry plant, announced last year, has started producing AI servers, rack systems and GPU units. With a capacity to build around 50,000 servers annually, the facility is expected to serve domestic demand as well as export markets.

Bengaluru has also emerged as a strategic global hub for Lenovo. In addition to research and development labs, the city will house security and network operations centres. The focus is shifting from infrastructure alone to outcome-based consulting, supporting enterprises in areas such as supply-chain optimisation, fraud detection, and AI-driven improvements in manufacturing and pharma.

Globally, Lenovo has committed USD 1 billion over three years to AI development, with India playing a central role in this strategy. The company’s approach reflects a shift in customer expectations, with enterprises now prioritising compliance, governance and measurable returns on investment over experimental AI deployments.
