    Employees seek authentic managers: Report

    Microsoft’s Work Trend Index Pulse Report says that 82 per cent employees are more inclined to attend one-on-ones at work if their managers are open, honest and empathetic, in other words, authentic.

    Employees are also more likely to work in person for an average of 1.80 days if their managers are authentic compared to 1.66 days if they aren’t. A significant 60 per cent are likely to meet every week if their managers are authentic and 32 per cent are more likely to discuss their own mental health and well-being during one-on-ones with such managers.

    On the other hand, in the absence of authentic managers, employees are less motivated to go to office and 44 per cent are more likely to disagree that they enjoy flexibility. In fact, if managers are not authentic, 65 per cent employees are more likely to say that learning and development (L&D) is not a priority for their managers.

    The report also revealed that it is the younger lot that is more interested to connect with  co-workers. In fact, 78 per cent of Gen Z and Millennials are more interested in connecting with their leadership compared to 72 per cent Gen X and the older lot. A majority (80 per cent) of the GenZ and Millennials are rather keen to establish a connection with their direct managers in person, compared to 76 per cent of Gen X and the older lot. A significant 79 per cent Gen Z is also more inclined to work in person (from office) so that they can see and interact with friends, compared to 69 per cent of Gen X and those from the older generation.
