Elon Musk has announced big changes at his artificial intelligence company, xAI. He admitted the startup was not set up properly in its early stages and is now being rebuilt from the ground up. Several members of the original team have already left, which is why the restructuring efforts have begun afresh.
As part of this reset, Musk apologised to candidates who were rejected during the first round of hiring. He acknowledged that many talented people may have been overlooked, with some not even given the chance to interview. He said the company is now reviewing past recruitment records to identify strong candidates who could still be a good fit.
Musk explained that he and Baris Akis (key associate and talent strategist for Musk) are leading this review process. They are re-contacting individuals who showed high potential but were previously declined. The aim is to correct earlier mistakes and ensure xAI does not miss out on skilled people who could contribute to its future growth.
This announcement highlights Musk’s willingness to admit missteps and attempt to fix them. He compared the situation to Tesla’s early struggles, suggesting that rebuilding from scratch is sometimes necessary to achieve long-term success. The restructuring and renewed focus on talent are part of Musk’s broader effort to strengthen xAI and position it more effectively in the competitive AI industry.
