An issue has been detected in the visa accreditation system in New Zealand. To address the same, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has come up with a temporary manual solution. The system limitation was impacting the manner in which employees on Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWVs) were being linked to their employers after a business sale or restructuring exercise.
The issue does not allow the system to automatically update job tokens, which are used to officially link AEWV holders to their employers in the records maintained by Immigration New Zealand.
If these connections are not updated the accuracy of employment data would be compromised. Therefore, INZ had to resort to this short-term manual solution to ensure that AEWV employees are properly linked to their new employer.
This requires them to submit a new job-check application, which creates a job token, which, in turn, leads to the completion of the connection in the system. Employers will be guided through the steps of the process, without any job fee being charged.
While this is just a temporary solution, work is already reportedly on to upgrade New Zealand’s existing system for the longer term. By next year, it is hoped that the new digital process will come into effect, which will further streamline the linkage of the employers and employees. Till then, the manual process will ensure that employees’ immigration status is correctly recorded.
