This is part of a government initiative aiming for a 2% annual rise in Emirati participation in the private sector, reaching 10% by 2026.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in the UAE has issued a final call to action for private sector companies. The crucial deadline for Emiratisation is fast approaching, with June 30th, 2024 marking the last day for compliance.

This deadline applies to companies with at least 50 employees, who must demonstrate a 1 per cent increase in the number of Emiratis holding skilled positions within their workforce. This signifies the latest stage in a government initiative designed to significantly boost Emirati participation in the private sector.

Failing to meet this target by the deadline could result in repercussions for companies. MoHRE has made it clear that they will begin strictly monitoring compliance starting July 1st. However, the Ministry isn’t solely focused on enforcement. Companies that have already achieved the target have been commended by MoHRE, who also emphasised the importance of ensuring Emirati employees are registered in authorised pension funds and the Wage Protection System (WPS).

For those companies struggling to meet the quota, MoHRE offers a valuable resource: the Nafis platform. This online resource acts as a bridge, connecting qualified Emirati job seekers with potential employers across various industries.

The Emiratisation initiative has a long-term vision. It aims to achieve a consistent 2 per cent annual increase in Emirati representation within the private sector. This ambitious plan targets a total of 10 per cent Emirati workforce participation by the end of 2026.

The initiative reflects the UAE government’s commitment to fostering a diversified and empowered national workforce. By increasing Emirati participation in the private sector, the government aims to create a more robust and sustainable economy for the future. This not only benefits Emirati citizens by offering them wider career opportunities, but also strengthens the private sector by integrating a highly skilled local talent pool.

While some companies may face challenges in meeting the immediate deadline, the support offered by MoHRE through the Nafis platform and other initiatives demonstrates a commitment to facilitating a smooth transition. With continued collaboration between the government and the private sector, the Emiratisation initiative has the potential to unlock significant economic and social benefits for the UAE.
