AkzoNobel, a global manufacturer of paints and chemicals, has announced plans to reduce its workforce by about 2,000 employees. The job reductions will be completed by the end of 2025.
This significant reduction represents around five per cent of its total employee base. It comes as a part of the company’s broader strategy to streamline its operations, enhance efficiency and manage rising costs.
The company, which employed 35,200 people in over 150 countries at the close of 2023, is taking these steps as part of a larger effort to simplify its organisational structure. The reduction is intended to eliminate operational complexities, improve decision-making speed, and reduce managerial layers, ultimately making the company more agile in responding to market fluctuations.
The restructuring is expected to not only reduce costs but also position AkzoNobel to become more adaptable and responsive to market demands. By streamlining processes and reducing bureaucratic hurdles, the company intends to foster quicker and more effective decision-making across its global operations. Furthermore, this shift is expected to help AkzoNobel navigate volatile global markets and offset external pressures such as escalating labour costs.
