The Uttar Pradesh Government has declared a 10 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA). This decision, effective from 1 February, 2024, is a welcome relief for the roadways workforce and underscores the government’s dedication to their welfare.
The DA elevation, rising from 28 per cent to 38 per cent, equates to a monthly salary boost of up to Rs 15,000 for around 12,000 regular employees. The hike will result in a monthly salary increase ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000 for employees, while officers will witness an increase of Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000. This well-earned increment acknowledges the vital role these employees play in ensuring the smooth operation of the state’s transportation network.
The Uttar Pradesh Roadways Employees Union has persistently advocated for a DA increase, and their efforts have now finally seen a positive outcome bringing much-needed relief to the workforce. However, there remains a gap to be addressed.
Girish Chandra Mishra, general secretary, Roadways Employees Joint Council, highlighted the pending DA instalments for July 2021, January 2022 and July 2022, totalling 10 per cent. These instalments were not factored into the current raise, resulting in an effective DA disparity of eight per cent compared to state employees.
Despite the outstanding gap, the DA hike marks a significant stride forward for UP Roadways employees, showcasing the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns and acknowledging their invaluable contributions. The ongoing dialogue between the union and the government are likely to result in additional improvements in the future.
