To give a push to the formalisation of the workforce and to facilitate business processes and activities, the Government of India has launched the Employee Enrolment Scheme 2025. This scheme will see employers voluntarily declaring and enrolling eligible employees (who have not been registered earlier) for registration with the
Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The government has assured that the employers will not be required to pay the employees’ share of contribution if it wasn’t deducted before, except for a nominal fine of a mere Rs 100.
The scheme was announced in the second week of last month, and has now come into operation starting 1 November, 2025.
This scheme was announced on the 73rd Foundation Day of the EPFO, by the Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya.
The official website of EPFO has also been given a makeover, which includes simplification of the interface, along with a more user-friendly design that facilitates ease of navigation. The objective is to allow subscribers to access essential services and relevant information conveniently.
The Scheme will ensure that more employees are brought into the formal workforce while also making it easy for employers to operate their businesses.
The Government of India together with the EPFO has been endeavouring to help formalise the workforce via various ways. As per media reports, there is a likelihood of the maximum wage limit for EPF coverage being increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000. This will allow more workers to benefit from the fund.
