Starting April 2026, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will roll out a new mobile app designed to make provident fund (PF) transactions faster and easier. The app will allow subscribers to withdraw PF money directly through UPI, with funds transferred instantly to their bank accounts.
One of the key features is auto-settlement of claims up to Rs 5 lakh, reducing the long wait times that members often face. The app will also provide a clear breakdown of PF balances, showing both the amount available for withdrawal and the portion that is locked or frozen.
The app will integrate with BHIM-UPI, making it widely accessible, and will include additional services such as digital submission of life certificates and nominee updates. This means subscribers can manage important PF-related tasks without visiting physical offices.
Reports suggest that the Labour Ministry is working on a system where a certain portion of PF money will remain frozen, while the rest will be available for withdrawal in real time. This approach is aimed at balancing liquidity for members with long-term savings security.
The move represents a major shift from the traditional process, where PF withdrawals often took weeks to be credited. By adopting UPI-based transactions, EPFO is aligning with India’s broader digital payments ecosystem and improving user convenience.
For employees, this change means quicker access to funds, greater transparency, and smoother management of retirement savings.
