For the first time in the history of the Indian Railways, 2,320 employees who superannuated on July 31, were given a virtual send-off. Amidst the pandemic, the Ministry of Railways organised the virual event, wherein all the zones, divisions and production units of the Railways were connected on a single platform along with all employees, including officers. Among the attendees at this event were Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways, Suresh C Angadi, Minister of State of Railways, Sushant Kumar Mishra, Secretary, Railway Board and other senior officers of the Railways.
Goyal urged the concerned staff to continue to serve the society just as they did the Railways, through small acts that would lead to big improvements for the society, in general. He especially urged everyone to work towards leaving a better nation for the next generation.
He suggested that the retirees focus on activities, such as rain-water harvesting, creating manure from wet waste, and coming up with ways to increase harvest. He called upon the retirees to use their experience to enlighten the common man about the policies and programmes offered by the Government so that each citizen of the country can benefit.
Throughout the pandemic, many freight trains, parcel trains and Shramik Special trains were running. Therefore, Goyal chose to call the Railway employees Corona warriors for their effort and dedication.
