Salil Parekh, CEO, Infosys, confirmed that the company is not planning any rightsizing, downsizing, or job cuts in response to the adoption of generative AI, unlike some other industry players. Parekh elaborated on his vision for large organisations, emphasising that various technologies, including generative AI, will coexist.
As reported by CNBC, Infosys is focusing on expansion, both in terms of its client base and employee count. This comes in the wake of a social- media uproar triggered by a former employee’s LinkedIn post alleging a “silent layoff.”
Kumar Shubman claimed he was abruptly let go without notice or sufficient time to secure a new job, sparking a debate and mixed reactions online. Despite the controversy, Parekh shared that Infosys will continue with an agile hiring model, looking ahead to FY25. He also highlighted that the company is yet to share an annual target on hiring, but it will remain agile in hiring based on the economic environment.
In October 2023, Infosys announced a pause on campus hiring, citing a significant bench of freshers Currently undergoing training in generative AI and other technologies. This decision came amidst a net decline in headcount over the past five quarters, with a reduction of nearly 26,000 employees in the financial year 2023-24 alone.
However, in April, Jayesh Sanghrajka, Infosys’ new CFO indicated a shift, stating the firm was hiring more than half of its fresher workforce off-campus and had yet to determine its campus hiring target for FY25.
