With an investment of over Rs 200 crore, Mitsubishi Electric India has established a manufacturing plant in the Talegaon area of Pune. This development has brought positive excitement to the local community, including residents in nearby Pimpri-Chinchwad. The company has hired 100 employees, primarily from the local area, and aims to hire an additional 500 employees in the coming years.
The manufacturing plant, situated in Badhalawadi village just a few kilometres from Talegaon, was officially inaugurated on 11 December 2023. Covering a total area of 40,000 square metres, the initial built-up space is 15,400 square metres.
Operations at the plant are scheduled to commence in January 2024. Hisahiro Nishimoto, group vice president, industry and mobility area (IMBA), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan, and Tomohiro Yoshida, director and head of factory automation division, Mitsubishi Electric India, were present at the event.
The Talegaon site will serve as the central hub for factory automation (FA) manufacturing. Presently, it is producing inverters, also known as variable frequency drives (VFDs), used for motor and controller operation. The new plant will focus on manufacturing various industrial automation and control products.
Yoshida mentioned that the new plant allows them to make FA products locally, cutting costs. Local manufacturing reduces expenses such as transportation and import duties, and naturally creates jobs locally.
This shift aims to make FA products more competitively priced. Currently, the plant has 100 employees, mostly from Pune, and plans to increase to 500 over time as more products are being added to the manufacturing range at the Talegaon plant.
