Power supply may be interrupted across the state of Punjab with about 15,000 employees of the Punjab State Power Corporation and the Punjab State Power Transmission going on mass leave for three days (till 13 August 2025).
The employees are protesting under the aegis of Bijli Ekta Manch and Punjab State Employees Federation (PSEB) seeking fulfilment of their long-pending demands.
The employees are asking for the immediate release of 13 per cent pending dearness allowance. They also want the old pension scheme to be restored and the errors in the pay and pension revision to be corrected. Additionally they have been pressing for regularisation of contract employees and hiring of candidates to fill about 50,000 vacancies. The employees are frustrated over the delay in filling vacancies and the inability to create new posts. They also want the ex-gratia amount to be hiked and wish for cashless medical facilities. They have been reminding the government of the overtime payments that have yet to be cleared for grid substation employees.
Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO appealed to the employees to return to work so that the general public is not made to suffer during a season when the consumption and demand of power are very high.
The minister also assured the employees that their grievances would be addressed soon. He shared with the protestors the fact that most of their demands have been approved in a recent meeting with the Punjab State Power Corporation (PSPL).
