Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur plant is considering a significant policy change. The policy may prohibit employees’ two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles from entering the plant premises. While this idea had been explored earlier, it was temporarily halted upon the union’s request. However, there is now renewed effort to assess the feasibility of restricting vehicle entry, with safety as the primary concern.
Due to the extensive work within the Jamshedpur plant and the high volume of vehicle movement, Tata Steel aims to prevent accidents and ensure employee safety. One potential solution being considered is the introduction of a bus service, similar to Tata Motors, allowing employees to park their vehicles outside the premises and commute inside by bus.
However, no official information has been provided by the management yet.
Additionally, the company is evaluating changes to improve movement within the Tata Steel Jamshedpur plant. To oversee this initiative, a committee has been formed, including various members focusing on reducing crowding within the Tata Steel campus and improving arrangements for the new office.
Even though the policy has not been made official yet, controversy has arisen over the potential vehicle entry ban, leading to protests against Sanjeev Choudhary Tunnu, elected president of Tata Workers Union.
The union feels such a ban may adversely affect employees and has asked the company to reconsider.
