The Company has confirmed to the media about the firing of 30 per cent staff in the talent-acquisition department. The actually number of employees that will be affected is not clear either.

In May 2022, Twitter had announced a hiring freeze in most departments as part of a cost-cutting measure. Since Twitter is in the midst of getting acquired by Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla, it is speculated that the Company is taking all required steps for sustainability of business.

Though, Parag Agrawal, CEO, Twitter, had mentioned in a memo to employees that the hiring freeze does not indicate that there would be layoffs, hardly a month after the hiring pause, employees from the talent acquisition department are being asked to leave.

Further, Twitter intends to reprioritise the remaining members of the talent acquisition team.

The ongoing acquisition process of Twitter by Musk has not gone down well with the existing employees of the Company. Musk, in his interaction with the employees had clarified that work-from-home will be allowed to a selected number of employees. As of now, Twitter employees are allowed to work from anywhere. Musk also revealed that to make the company financially healthy, some rational decisions will be taken, which can also result in layoffs. However, he had also assured that good performers need not worry about their jobs.
