Uber, the ride-sharing company, has announced the launch of its second Centre of Execellence (COE) in India, at Visakhapatnam. This new COE will create 500 new jobs and offer specialised customer support to handle specific and critical matters that require prompt action. The Company will be hiring solution-oriented experts to cater to the wide customer base in not just India, but South Asia and APAC regions as well.

These trained and skilled COE teams will be available 24×7 to assist customers.

According to Wen-Szu Lin, senior director, community operations for Asia Pacific, Uber, the new COE will help the Company ensure safer and more responsible mobility solutions to riders in India. The COE will also create “new economic opportunities” for the talent available in the country.

The first COE in India was set up in Hyderabad about four years back, and has more than 1000 employees offering regional and global customer support services to riders, drivers, eaters, couriers, and restaurant partners.

Though India’s second and Asia’s fourth, the new COE at Visakhapatnam is the Company’s 12th globally. Uber operates COEs in Chicago and Phoenix in the US, in Limerick (Ireland), Lisbon (Portugal), Cairo (Egypt), and Krakow (Poland). It also has COEs in Costa Rica and Sao Paulo as well as in Manila and Pampanga (Philippines).

Over the years, in addition to insurance cover for riders and drivers, Uber has rolled out many in-app safety features and practices such as two-way call anonymisation to help protect the privacy of riders; comprehensive background checks of drivers; reminders to Check Your Ride before boarding; Share Trip for your peace of mind; and 24/7 Safety Helpline for any urgent assistance during trips.
