Deepinder Goyal, CEO, Zomato, is looking for a chief of staff for himself. Nothing out of the ordinary you’d say? Well, wait till you know the conditions he has set. For one, the candidate will not be paid any salary for the first year. Unusual indeed! But there is more. Goyal wants the candidate to pay Rs 20 lakh, which will be donated to a non-profit organisation called Feeding India. In return, Zomato promises to contribute Rs 50 lakh to a charity of the candidate’s choice. What does the candidate gain from such a job opportunity? A learning experience like no other!
According to Goyal, the candidate will learn ten times more than what the best two-year management degree programmes in the country can teach. The ideal candidate, as per Deepinder Goyal, would be one who is “hungry” for knowledge and possesses “a lot of common sense”. He is looking for an empathetic person who comes without any kind of baggage. Clearly, he is not looking for an experienced hand. All he is seeking is a “down to earth” individual with “zero entitlement” as he says in his X post.
What the candidate must have is the urge to always even if means causing displeasure to people. Excellent communication skills are a must in addition to a “learning mindset”.
The selected candidate will be expected to help build the future of Zomato and related brands, such as Blinkit, District, Hyperpure, and Feeding India.
