Pinterest, the image sharing and social-media platform, has appointed Christine Deputy as its new chief people officer. Deputy comes with more than three decades of experience in the HR domain. Prior to this, Deputy was the CHRO at Nordstrom, a retail brand, where she was leading the HR function for six years. At Nordstrom, Deputy handled more than 70,000 employees, helping the Company achieve many milestones including pay equity and pay parity and bringing in diversity, inclusion and belongingness into every part of the business.

In her current role, Deputy will report to Ben Silbermann, co-founder and CEO, Pinterest. As the chief people officer, Deputy will be responsible for all aspects of Pinterest’s human-resources strategy, including talent management, leadership development, pay and benefits, and helping to ensure fulfilment of commitments in terms of improving the workplace culture.

“As we continue to build an innovative and diverse global company, we’re excited to have Christine join Pinterest. Christine has a wealth of experience across a number of high-profile international brands and shares our vision for building a culture of collaboration, where all employees feel included and supported,” says Silbermann on Deputy’s appointment.

Deputy, who is a graduate in Psychology from The Washington University, has the experience of leading teams at iconic brands, such as Barclays, Aviva, Dunkin Brands and Starbucks.

“What attracted me to Pinterest was their mission of inspiration and passion for sharing creativity on the platform. Bringing this same experience to life for Pinterest’s 2,700 global employees, and embracing diversity and inclusion across every aspect of the business will be a key part of my mission as chief people officer,” shares Deputy on her appointment.

This week, Pinterest also shared 2020 Inclusion and Diversity report, which highlights the progress the firm has made on the journey to building a more inclusive and diverse Company. The report mentions that 50 per cent of Pinterest’s global workforce now comprises women, and that the Company has reached pay equity across genders and races in the US.
