Upwork, the work marketplace, has roped in Sunita Solao for the role of chief people officer. Solao, who comes with over two decades of experience in HR, has been playing advisor to Virtuelly since 2022 and to Wheel, since February 2023. Her last full-time assignment was with Convoy Inc. as vice president, people.
Her HR journey began in 1998, when she joined Thermax as HR manager for a two-year stint. She then moved to GE Healthcare where she spent a good six years, starting with their human resource leadership programme (HRLP), based out of Greater Chicago Area. Less than four years into this role, she was elevated to the post of learning and organisation development manager. By the time she moved on from GE, she had become head of HR, GE Healthcare – Women’s Health Business.
In 2009, she took on the role of director – HR for the product and technology teams at eBay, based out of San Francisco Bay Area. For the period 2012 to 2014, she served as director – HR for the company.
Her next stop was Airbnb in 2014. She joined as director – talent (HR), global sales and customer service operations. By August 2017, she was head of people, Aribnb Homes Business.
September of 2020 saw her at Convoy Inc. as VP of People@ Convoy.
Solao, who completed BE in chemical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, also holds an MBA in human resource management from University of Wisconsin- Madison.
