The board of directors of TATA AIG General Insurance Company, the Indian general insurance provider, has approved the appointment of Amit Ganorkar as the new managing director and chief executive officer. Ganorkar steps into the shoes of Neelesh Garg, with effect from 1 January, 2025.

This is Ganorkar’s second stint with TATA AIG, as he has earlier served as president and chief operating officer from 2019 to 2023.

Ganorkar, who brings over two decades of extensive experience in the general insurance industry, moves from Royal Sundaram General Insurance, where he was managing director since 2023.

An engineering graduate from Mumbai University, Ganorkar holds a postgraduate diploma in foreign trade from Savitribai Phule Pune University.

He spent a year as management trainee and sales executive with the Murugappa Group, from 2002 to 2003. He then joined ICICI Lombard General Insurance as manager-bancassurance/product manager. Two years into this role, he was elevated to product head-motor insurance. Another promotion in 2007 put him in the role of national manager-retail products. Two years later he was elevated to national sales manager-key relationships. By the time he moved on from ICICI Lombard in 2013, he had reached the position of national sales manager-direct sales.

After a successful decade-long tenure at ICICI Lombard, Amit Ganorkar joined Reliance General Insurance, as chief marketing and distribution officer-retail business. Almost four years later, he co-founded ZipSure General Insurance.

It was in 2019 that he came to be associated with TATA AIG as president and chief operating officer, for over three years. April of 2023 saw him relocating from Mumbai to Chennai, to join Royal Sundaram General Insurance as managing director.

Ganorkar is “committed to continuing TATA AIG’s journey of success alongside our talented team”. He intends to “focus on strengthening our customer-centric approach, enhancing digital transformation, and driving sustainable growth to meet the evolving needs of our clients.”

HRKatha wishes him all the best!
