Vipin Sharma who was head-talent acquisition, Tata Steel, has been elevated to the position of chief talent acquisition.

Having joined the company in 2010, as manager-HR, Sharma’s association with Tata Steel is over 14 years old.

He started off in a business partner role in the mining division of the company, based out of Jharia. For a little less than two years, he was solely responsible for all activities of HR in the location to ensure that the business needs are met by close partnership with business. He successfully recruited officers of different profiles such as engineering, medicine, hospitality, management and administration. He also reviewed and analysed business unit data to identify trends and take action to improve performance, retention, and employee experience. Working with line managers, he managed to create and implement innovative solutions for a variety of employee-engagement initiatives in the division.

In February 2012, he relocated from Dhanbad to Jamshedpur. There, among other responsibilities, he handled the entire gamut of HR activities for Tata Growth Shop; a profit centre of Tata Steel.

In 2014, he was promoted to the role of senior manager, HRM. Barely four years into this role, he was elevated once again to the post of head-HR strategy, analytics and HR Innovation Labs.

For the next four years, he engaged with HR and business leadership to set the vision for HR and HR strategy and drive strategic interventions. He also engaged with various stakeholders to identify HR risks and monitor it as per ERM framework.

June 2022 saw him elevated to head-talent acquisition. After two years of leading talent acquisition and the employer branding team for Tata Steel, he is now all set to play chief, talent management.

An alumnus of the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, from where he obtained an MBA in human resources, Sharma’s association with Tata Steel began in 2009 as a summer intern. He has truly come a long way since then, and HRKatha wishes him all the luck for the future.
