The placement drive at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) this year witnessed a record number of job offers. About 1,199 offers were made, probably the highest till date. That’s not all. The highest salary offered was close to Rs 2 crore! The average salary offered was Rs 21.48 lakh per annum.

A whopping 80 per cent of the students who participated in the 2021-22 campus placements received job offers. This time, about 131 startups participated in the drive, making about 199 offers.

Nearly 231 summer interns received pre-placement offers from the companies they interned with.

About 45 international offers were made from 14 companies, including Uber, Rubrik, Termgrid, Accenture Japan, Glean, Honda R&D, Cohesity, Glean, Quantbox Research, Money Forward, Hilabs Inc., Da Vinci Derivatives and MediaTek.

The entire batch of 61 MBA students was successfully placed. Therefore, the Department of Management Studies can safely claim 100 per cent placement this year.

In yet another development, Pravartak Technologies of IIT Madras is collaborating with Sony India Software Centre to offer a skill training programme, aimed at building skills in engineering graduates. The six-month long Sony India Finishing School Skill Development Training Programme, is meant for students who graduated in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Students from financially weak families, or those whose parents earn less than Rs 8 lakh a year, will be trained free of cost on various subjects, including cyber security, computer graphics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and business communication skills.
