Akasa Air, India’s rapidly expanding airline, has soared to new heights with the appointment of Sejal Haribhakti Mody as its chief human resources officer (CHRO), effective September 9, 2024. Mody’s strategic leadership will be instrumental in guiding Akasa Air towards its ambitious goal of becoming one of the world’s top 30 airlines by the end of the decade.

As CHRO, Sejal will oversee Akasa Air’s organisational transformation, ensuring that its talent strategy aligns with its ambitious growth plans. Her extensive experience in human resources, spanning industries such as FMCG, media, and consulting, will be invaluable in fostering a high-performance culture and driving employee engagement.

Vinay Dube, founder and CEO, Akasa Air, expressed his enthusiasm for Mody’s appointment: “Her expertise in organisational transformation and her commitment to people-centric cultures will be instrumental as we continue to expand our operations and deliver a world-class customer experience.”

Mody herself expressed her excitement about joining Akasa Air, stating, “The Indian aviation industry is undergoing a remarkable transformation, and I’m honoured to be a part of Akasa Air at this pivotal moment. I look forward to working with the talented team here to cultivate an inclusive and dynamic culture that empowers our people and contributes to the airline’s ongoing success.”

Sejal brings a wealth of experience to Akasa Air, having previously served as the HR head for supply chain, legal, and esg/sustainability for South Asia at Hindustan Unilever. In this role, she led talent strategy, workforce planning, and culture-building initiatives, while working closely with the supply chain and legal teams. Prior to that, she held senior HR leadership roles at Disney Star, McKinsey & Co., and Accenture, where she drove key strategic HR initiatives and transformation programmes.

Sejal holds an MBA in finance and change management from the Indian School of Business and a BBA Honours in Management Information Systems from the Texas McCombs School of Business. Her academic background, coupled with her extensive industry experience, positions her well to lead Akasa Air’s HR function and contribute to its continued success.
