Indraprastha Gas (IGL) has appointed Ajeet Kumar as chief general manager – human resource development (HRD), effective October 2026. He joins the city gas- distribution company after nearly 18 years with NTPC, where he held HR leadership roles across power projects and the corporate office.

Kumar brings over 19 years of professional experience across human- resource management, employee relations, industrial relations, workforce planning and organisational development. His experience spans large-scale, regulated environments, with a focus on aligning HR practices with operational requirements.

Before joining IGL, Kumar served as deputy general manager – HR at NTPC. From December 2024 to October 2026, he headed the employee relations and employee welfare sections at a brownfield power project in Sipat, Chhattisgarh, which has an installed capacity of 2,980 MW and an additional 800 MW unit under construction. He also oversaw the law and corporate communication functions.

Earlier, Kumar served as senior manager – HR at NTPC’s corporate centre in New Delhi, where he worked as special assistant to the executive director – HR. His responsibilities covered policy matters, talent acquisition, strategic human resource management, talent management, HR planning and stakeholder management.

During his earlier assignments at NTPC’s Meja and Rihand power stations, Kumar handled employee and industrial relations, labour welfare, statutory compliance, contract labour management, performance management and HR planning. He also worked on corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, change management and coordination with local authorities and law- enforcement agencies.

Kumar began his career as an HR executive trainee at NTPC in October 2008. Before joining the power major, he held HR roles at Daily Bread Gourmet Foods, Café Coffee Day and CSC Financial Services, gaining experience in recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits, performance appraisal and organisational development.

He holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from the University of Allahabad and an Executive Master of Public Administration from the London School of Economics and Political Science, which he completed in 2024 with merit.

At IGL, Kumar will lead the HRD function, with responsibilities spanning talent acquisition, talent management, career development, learning and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and organisational culture. His experience in workforce and employee relations is expected to support the company’s people strategy and organisational priorities.
