Compared to December 2024, the net payroll addition in January 2025 was 11.48 per cent more as per the provisional data released by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). There was a net addition of 17.89 lakh members, with 8.23 lakh new members being enrolled in January 2025. Of the new subscribers, 2.17 lakh were women.

Of the over eight lakh new subscribers, 4.70 lakh belonged to the 18 to 25 age group. In fact, they made up 57.07 per cent of the total number of new subscribers who enrolled in January 2025. Compared to January of 2024, the number of new subscribers in this age bracket has grown by 3.07 per cent in January this year.

The net payroll addition was 11.67 per cent more than during the same time last year, that is, January 2024. Clearly, there has been an increase in the number of job opportunities and awareness regarding benefits has grown thanks to the EPFO’s programmes and efforts to reach out to people across the country.

The new subscribers’ addition shows year on year growth of 1.87 per cent compared to the same time period last year.

The net payroll addition for the 18-25 age bracket for January 2025 is about 7.27 lakh, which is 6.19 per cent more than the previous month, that is, December 2024. This indicates that many first-time jobseekers, mainly youngsters, have entered the organised workforce.

About 15.03 lakh members exited and then again returned to enroll in EPFO probably because of job switching. These job switchers would have chosen to transfer their accumulated funds on joining their new jobs.
