A US-based financial-technology firm, Bluevine, has abruptly terminated its entire Indian customer support team in a five-minute Google Meet call, leaving around 80 employees jobless. As per media reports, the layoffs were communicated late into their evening shift after staff had been asked to work remotely for the day citing “operational reasons.”

Bluevine, which provides digital-banking services such as online business accounts, payment tools, and credit lines for small businesses, reportedly justified the move by claiming the Indian team was not delivering the expected output. Employees, however, contested this explanation, pointing out that attrition and performance issues were more common in the US operations, while the Indian staff consistently worked harder to safeguard their positions.

The affected employees reported that they were three hours into their 6:30 pm shift when senior management summoned them to the virtual meeting. During the brief call, the team was informed that their roles had been eliminated. The decision came without prior warning, despite workers pushing themselves to meet expectations out of fear for job security.

The sudden dismissal has affected 80 families and sparked widespread criticism online. Social-media users described the incident as “sad” and “disheartening,” highlighting the vulnerability of workers in global corporations where employment can be cut off instantly.

The episode underscores the precarious nature of outsourced roles in multinational firms, where entire teams can be disbanded with little notice. For Bluevine’s Indian support staff, years of effort and loyalty ended in a five minute call, raising fresh concerns about how companies handle restructuring and the human cost of such decisions.
